Another is a new series of work by M. P. Landis, directly inspired by his personal experience with kidney failure, dialysis, and a transplant with a kidney donated by his friend Tom Abbs. This body of work began years ago when Landis became fascinated with the backs of old frames he collected, many of which came from the museum in Provincetown, MA (P.A.A.M.). For years he used the backs of these frames in 3-D works. He imagined an exhibition of a series of work using the frame backs with textured and painted wood panels; work that would appear minimal at first glance, while also being full of information and history. While Landis was recovering from his recent kidney transplant surgery, he was also going through the emotional process of accepting into his own body the healthy kidney from the body of his close friend, creative force Tom Abbs. Landis began thinking again about this series begun many years earlier and put aside. Waking in the middle of the night Landis realized that the missing piece in this series was the act of literally taking a piece out of each work and adding it to another.
